SHIVNERI,BIRTH PLACE OF SHIVAJI MAHARAJ

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj - The name itself speak out the history. The total Maratha history is focused on this great person only. The creator of Hindi Swaraj was born here in 1627. He lived his childhood here and played here with his friends. The fort today also speaks out the greatest Maratha.

The fort is huge one and with good height. Because of it's uniqueness and difficult to reach , Shahaji - father of Shivaji - kept his wife - Jijabai during her pregnancy. The fort is tough to climb from the hills. But the normal road is comparatively simple through a bit time consuming. This road has 7 doors till one reaches the actual fort. The temple of 'Devi Shivai' is in between and which is very old. After the name of this goddess , Shivaji was named. The temple is very beautiful.

Shivneri is famous for Shivaji's birth. The birth - place of Shivaji is auspicious one and easily memorise the period. The building and the surroundings are worth to see. The other places to visit in Shivneri are 'Kaman Take' , 'Kadelot Tok' , 'Koli Chouthara ' and 'Dongarmatha' (the top of the fort). One can see various places like Khodad, Arvi and Kukadi dam nearby, in the same trip.
Truly, a place where one can remember Shivaji Maharaj and his childhood.

[edit] History

A group of few third year students planned this event in October 2004, created a framework for the whole event and brought its first edition in April 2005 which bagged around 300 participants from various parts of the country. Prof. Vishwanathan Mohan, a young faculty working with SGGS then, lead this bunch enthusiastic students from first to third year. The Idea of Pragyaa had to face a lot of difficulties before it could come to reality. but none the less it was an effort to give platform to young, undiscovered talent. Since then Pragyaa has found a major place in institutional agenda and with continued improvisations, PRAGYAA has turned into a mega event. Every year it has grown to accommodate more events and more participants.

[edit] Popular Events: A Brief Overview

Dirt Race:
One of the most popular events hosted in Pragyaa has always been the 'Dirt Race'. Generally, the objective is to build a car with specified dimensions and restricted energy resources that can run through a pre-designed race track in the shortest time. The race track consists of various hindrances that could be anything like a gravel bed, an incline, mud pits etc. Every car individually gets three chances to record its best lap timing. Teams are shortlisted accordingly, and eventually a winner is chosen. The prizes at stake are usually among the highest and most handsome. It takes place in the Instrumentation Department. This event has witnessed huge audience in the past.
[edit] Pragyaa 2006: Attitudes are Contagious

Pragyaa 2006 saw a participation of around 450 students and was characterized by the inclusion of Theme Songs - Composed and sung by the college's in house Rock Band. Prizes worth Rs. 75k were distributed.
[edit] Pragyaa 2007: Intelligence beyond Vision

Pragyaa 2007 grew to include an astonishing audience of 650. The event was characterized by the inclusion of E-Pragyaa - a web based series of event, demanding no physical participation. E-Pragyaa in 2007 and 2008 received entries from Oman thus making Pragya an INTERNATIONAL EVENT. Also Physicon was included which gave a new meaning to quizzing - making it Physics specific and thus more demanding. Prizes worth Rs. 150K were distributed. The theme songs included Heroes Unseen - the quality of which matched a professional track.
[edit] Pragyaa 2008: Development Through Innovation…

Again the size doubled in all aspects. Participation of over 1600 students, prizes over Rs. 252k were distributed this time. The events were organised with an objective of partcipation from all possible professional courses like engineering, agriculture engineering, fashion designing, architecture, animation and physics. The theme songs were in no way a child's play. Songs like Develop through Innovation and By My Side were appreciated by people even in San Diago and Canada and also Australia.
[edit] Pragyaa 2009: ReFORM…ReSEARCH…ReCYCLE…

It was the 5th ostentatious successful year of National Level Technical Fiesta, which was equally proficient in implementing its theme of Reform...Research...Recycle... It was an event that was home for over 34 technical events, an event that attracted larger number of Companies, an event that had a greater volume of participation from outside, an event that catered a bigger number of visitors, an event that was enriched by the presence of many multifaceted personalities.
[edit] Pragyaa 2010: Know Disaster…No Disaster…

PRAGYAA, an ethos of a team, a tale of gradual success, a summation of smart efforts, a radiation of decisive power and a fusion of transpiring ardour to explore technology and transcend the existing one.

RAIGAD

"Fort Raigad is much more than a mere tourist spot. It is a sacred place of pilgrimage, which has left an imprint of the grand vision of Hindavi Swarajya as cherished by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj."

Fort Raigad was the capital of the most illustrious Maratha sovereign, nurtured by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. It is a monument of his prophetic vision of Hindavi Swarajya.

This is a preamble prior to your electrifying excursion around Fort Raigad. It has been described by European historians as 'The Gibralter of East'. Various landmarks have lent it the credo of 'Shivtirth'. The holy shrine has become vibrant by the valour, courage and patriotism of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

The sheer vertical rock face tearing into the sky above, appears defiant and insurmountable. It has stemmed many a foreign aggression and protected the Hindavi Swarajya during those historic times.

When he first saw the place, Shivaji Maharaj could not help exclaim:
"This Fort is formidable. All sides appear as if chiselled from a mountain of solid rock. Not even a blade of grass grows on the sheer vertical rock. This is a paragon to house the throne".

At the foothills near village Pachad, is Chit Darwaja, also known as Jit Darwaja. After gruelling foot-slogging, you reach Khoob Ladha Buruj. It is a strategically located turret, from where an aggressor attacking from either flank could be repelled. Maha DarwajaNearly a mile ahead, after a difficult climb comes the Maha Darwaja. Built over 350 years ago, this main entrance to the Fort stands majestically. It is as imposing and stout today, as it was then! The design of this Maha Darwaja is an enigma. It defies detection of its location to the attacker. Blind curves enroute make it impossible for the attacker to use elephants to knock it down. In the battle of those historic times, elephants were used to demolish fort entrances.

A steep climb of nearly 1450 steps and three and a half hours of extreme demands on your physical stamina, leaves you too exhausted. The magic mantra - Raigad Ropeway - has opened a new chapter of sightseeing - the Fort Raigad. It whisks you to the top, through the clouds and whistling winds, in just 4 minutes. Gone is its exhausting inaccessibility. Now you have all the energy and time to enjoy the sightseeing! Well-trained and courteous guides are at hand to give you a conducted tour of the Fort.

From the conduit on the southern side flows the holy saraswati when the following astrological times come together, namely, Bhadrapad month, shasthi (6th day) ,Tuesday sun in hasta nakshatra, Rohini nakshatra in predominance & Vyatipat. This miraculous yoga (coincidence) is known as the "Kapila Shasthi Yoga", which is believed to be very auspicious occassion as per the Hindu faith.

indian flag

THE NATIONAL FLAG OF INDIA is in tricolour ( TIRANGA) of deep saffron (Kesari) at the top, white in the middle and dark green at the bottom in equal proportions.

The Indian flag is a horizontal tricolour in equal proportion of deep saffron on the top, white in the middle and dark green at the bottom. The ratio of the width to the length of the flag is two is to three. In the centre of the white band, there is a wheel in navy blue to indicate the Dharma Chakra, the wheel of law in the Sarnath Lion Capital. This center symbol or the 'CHAKRA', is a Buddhist symbol dating back to 200th century BC.

Its diameter approximates the width of the white band and it has 24 spokes, which intends to show that there is life in movement and death in stagnation. The saffron stands for courage, sacrifice and the spirit of renunciation; the white, for purity and truth; the green for faith and fertility. The design of the National Flag of India was adopted by India's constituent assembly on 22nd july, 1947. It's use and display are regulated by a code. The flag symbolizes freedom. The late Prime Minister Pandit Nehru called it a flag not only of freedom for ourselves, but a symbol of freedom for all people.
